Already Modified My Ooni Frya 😎🍕

I'm sure it was more likely operator error than anything else but I found that I wasn't really a big fan of using pellets for fuel in my brand new Frya. Lots of soot and creosote and no real way to control the intensity of the fire. Unfortunately the Frya is designed to only use pellets. What is a lad to do? After perusing the various Ooni Facebook groups I came across a number of posts from Frya owners who were in the same boat as me and had ordered the gas burner attachment that is an add-on accessory for the Ooni Karu 12. It fits the Frya perfectly, burns clean, and the flame is adjustable. I ordered one and attached it to my Frya today with a couple of strong magnets that I normally use to close up the rebar holes in my PBC and fired it up. Looks like it is going to fit the bill perfectly and my neighbour was kind enough to drop off a couple of stainless steel self-tapping screws for me today. I can always swap back to the pellet system anytime I want, but I kind of lean towards the opinion of Attjack and others that you're not likely to get much in the way of wood flavour from a home pizza oven when the cooking only takes about 90 seconds or so, especially when using pellets that at the temps in a pizza oven aren't giving off any real smoke at all.
    The obligatory pictures/video:

That conversion doesn't fit my old-model Ooni, which is just as well. I'm very happy with the pellets, but if it fit I would want one just on principle.

Cool to see that's working for you.

Weather permitting my next attempt at pizza on the Ooni (this will be my second) will happen on Saturday. I'm going to make a poolish Friday night, then the dough on Saturday. I'm going to be following this recipe - https://mypizzacorner.com/pizza-doug...poolish-pizza/ I'm looking forward to making my own dough and I will be much more careful not to stretch it too thinly.

Thanks for sharing. I’ve been using grocery store pre-made dough on my Ooni with meh results. I made 3 pizzas the other night. They all stuck to the steel wheel but I ordered the Ooni wooden one yesterday. The first one turned into a calzone but the other 2 were better. But looking for a better dough recipe.

Do you think you’ll ever go back and try the pellets again, maybe once you get the dough/temp thing figured out?

That is quite likely. I don't like to admit defeat.

I'm intrigued by your gas modification. I recently recieved a Fyra 12 as a gift and am not happy with the acrid smoke and soot and creosote buil-up in the oven! Did you ever figure out why it wouldn't burn clean? Pellets are used everywhere with all kinds of cookers and I never read or hear of problems. If I can't resolve the issue by Summers end, I was considering a gas model, but your modification might do the trick. What model year is your Fyra?

I doubt you’ll get a response, as several months ago the OP declared that he was leaving The Pit for good.
